Clamping units are used on SKODA Horizontal Boring and Milling Machines for the locking of main movable feed assemblies of machine – i.e. saddle/column on bed (X-axis), headstock on column (Y-axis) and ram in headstock (Z+W-axes) during machining procedure.
The original design of clamping units is based on air control and application of special plastic material (so called "Gelasol"). These clamping units require considerably extensive maintenance and relatively often replacement of this plastic material. They are usually 8 pcs of these clamping units used on one SKODA horizontal boring machine. As the availability of this material can be limited in future, VHS re-designed the control of clamping units to hydraulics.
