There was used the standard trapezoidal lead feed screw for travel of headstock on column (Y-axis) on earlier manufactured versions of SKODA Horizontal Boring and Milling Machines.
The wear of standard trapezoidal lead screw which was used for travel of headstock on the column on earlier manufactured SKODA Horizontal Boring and Milling Machines was relatively fast. It was therefore necessary to change often the respective nut, in some cases after some time also the feed screw. The accuracy of adjustment of backlash was also considerably limited. The demands for maintenance check up were as well higher. That is why this system was replaced by application of feed ball screw. The ball screw version not only reduces the wear but it also provides much better adjustment of backlash accuracy. The ball screw feed arrangement in Y-axis fulfill therefore the most important conditions required for its application during modification of horizontal boring machines from manually controlled to CNC-controlled version.
