The original design of feed gear boxes for travel of headstock on column (Y-axis) on manually controlled SKODA Horizontal Boring and Milling Machines was based on application of electromagnetic clutches for shifting of feed speeds in different steps.
The design of original feed gear box for travel in Y-axis on SKODA horizontal boring and milling machines does not fulfill one of the basic demands required for its application on CNC-controlled machines – i.e. backlash free adjustment necessary for the elimination of backlash in feed system of Y-axis. That is why the gearbox for Y-axis was re-designed so that it corresponds to the backlash free feed system with direct drive from respective feed motor.
